Since Skyrim is such a triumphant blockbuster, it’s safe to assume that Bethesda will eventually get around to making another installment in the series. However, fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise shouldn’t hold their breath, for Pete Hines, Bethesda’s Vice President of Marketing and PR, says it will be a “very long time" before the Maryland-based studio even discusses their next project after Fallout 4.
While speaking to Dualshockers at Gamescom 2015, Hines proclaimed that Bethesda is completely focused on the development of the upcoming installment in their popular post-apocalyptic franchise with Fallout 4. Additionally, with The Elder Scrolls Online just recently being made available for consoles (and with DLC for the Web-enabled title releasing well into next year), fans ought to remain busy questing in Tamriel for the foreseeable future. Plus, with the company’s development team being roughly the same size since its inception – that is, “a hundred and something” crew members – for the sake of quality, it’s imperative that they only concentrate on one game at a time. Not to mention, Bethesda has touched on this issue in the past by saying that they have no interest in just spitting out a sequel to Skyrim.
Even though Hines said that Fallout 4 was “basically done” when the game was announced, Bethesda still has a lot more work left to do before its official release, such as bug fixes, code refinement, and of course, QA testing, so as to ensure the highest quality product possible. And having said that, a while back, Fallout director Todd Howard assured fans that the Wasteland-centric RPG should have smooth release, as learning from Skyrim’s problems helped improve Fallout 4.
At any rate, with Bethesda having offered up a bunch of expansions and with so many community-created mods like Alexander Velicky’s massive Falskaar mod that adds 25 hours of content to Skyrim, fans of the game should not want for stuff to do. Besides, it isn’t as if gamers have that much longer to wait until finally getting their hands on a copy of Fallout 4.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
