Bethesda’s first response to the initial leak was to post a tweet from the RAGE twitter account, poking fun at the Walmart listing by making amendments in bright pink lettering with comments such as “WRONG FONT!!!” and “NOT ALL CAPS :(”. The teasing has now picked up the pace, with the official Bethesda Twitter account posting a cryptic picture of Big Ben, with the exact same pink hue partially covering the clock face.
The clock is displaying 5:14, leading many to speculate that a RAGE 2 reveal is scheduled for May 14th. This interpretation seems to be corroborated by the second picture Bethesda posted featuring the same pink tint - this time displaying a rocket with 5-14 printed on its side.
The rocket may also have some thematic importance for RAGE 2, perhaps indicating that the game will feature space travel or a greater emphasis on Sci-Fi elements than its predecessor. The latest image posted from Bethesda simply features a busy street viewed from an aerial perspective, colored with the same pink we have seen on the other two images. This is the most cryptic of the three images, as it features no immediately discernible details about what Bethesda could be teasing.
It’s important to note the distinct possibility that these images are not teasing RAGE 2, but something else entirely. While the pink color seems to be a strong giveaway, some are speculating that the rocket is an indication that the game being teased is actually Starfield, Bethesda’s secretive space RPG for which a trademark was filed way back in 2013. With this in mind, it is possible that the third image featuring the busy street in fact teases the logo for Starfield.
Whether the title being teased is RAGE 2 or not, Bethesda has definitely succeeded in building the hype as fans frantically speculate on what May 14th will hold. With this latest marketing stunt, and Pete Hines teasing that Bethesda’s E3 showcase next month may be the longest one ever, it’s a very exciting time to be a Bethesda fan.
