According to an interview with the outlet Finder.com.au, Hines was asked about Bethesda’s position on releasing titles for the Nintendo NX, and whether or not fans should anticipate the developer’s games to show up on the console. The Bethesda executive answered the question by declaring that he and his company haven’t ruled it out yet, but it’s still a case of determining if the studio’s products would be the right fit for the in-development Nintendo platform.
In the past, Bethesda did not make any games for Nintendo’s Wii U, as Hines declared in a 2013 interview that the Big N didn’t reach out to third-party developers quickly enough, thus making support for the system difficult. Taking this into consideration, it’s safe to presume that the lack of games from third-parties was definitely one of the factors involved in the Wii U’s struggle to move units. That said, though, with Bethesda seemingly in the loop this time around for the NX, it’s possible that Nintendo learned its lesson, and has already contacted other developers as well.
Scheduled to arrive in March 2017, the NX seems to have a solid lineup of first-party titles upon its release, as it has been reported as having Super Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon launch games. Should popular developers like Bethesda make its games available for the console, then it’s quite possible that the Nintendo NX could usher in a renaissance for the company with its world-renown stable of IPs being present alongside releases also available on Sony’s and Microsoft’s platforms.
Whatever the case may be for Bethesda games showing up on the Nintendo NX, like Hines said, it’s still too early to make concrete, declarative statements about how third-party releases will work on the console. After all, particulars about the Big N’s system are still relatively scant, as most of what we know are rumors so far. Nevertheless, it’s safe to say that once more solid information is revealed about the NX, and to a greater extent, Nintendo’s relationship with Bethesda, most gaming fans will definitely begin to become more attuned to and excited for the console’s potential.
Bethesda’s most recent big release is Fallout 4, which is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while Nintendo’s NX is set for launch sometime in March of 2017.
