One of these recent fan projects has instead recreated Better Call Saul itself as a game, built to have the look and feel of a title made for the classic Game Boy console. This doesn’t take the form of a finished game that can actually be played, but the clip does give an idea of how this game might have played across several levels and genres if it ever released.

Created by artist Lumpy Touch, the video shows a number of different levels for this Better Call Saul game, each following a different genre that all fit with the old-school theme. One of the first “playable” segments seems to be the most at home on a Game Boy cartridge, showing Saul Goodman being controlled through a platformer. As the clip continues, the genre switches multiple times, ranging from a sniping level to a scene pulled right out of Punch Out pitting Saul against Howard Hamlin.

This isn’t the first piece of pop-culture content that Lumpy Touch has re-imagined in a classic pixel format. They’ve also recreated the Morbius film as a Minesweeper clone titled Morbsweeper, for example. Similar to this recent re-imagining of Better Call Saul, much of Lumpy Touch’s content is mostly comedic while also showing off a high degree of talent in crafting and animating pixel art. However, it doesn’t appear that many of the artist’s creations ever see a true release, even if they are centered around gaming styles. So a fully released Better Call Saul game likely isn’t on Lumpy Touch’s to-do list.

With the series finale coming soon, this likely won’t be the last piece of Better Call Saul fan-content coming within the next month or so. However, this is still one of the more impressive pieces that fans have shared to highlight some memorable moments from the series. If the finale is as impressive as previous episodes from Season 6 of Better Call Saul have been, then there will likely be a huge influx from the fan community revolving around however the series ends.

Better Call Saul Season 6 is airing on Netflix now.
